Placements24 in South Africa invites a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Welkom team on a hybrid basis. You will lead geotechnical investigations, evaluate bearing capacity, and design foundations for energy infrastructure projects.

You will prepare detailed reports, mentor project teams, and ensure adherence to relevant codes and standards. A Master's degree and Pr. Eng. registration are required, with at least seven years of experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of specialized geotechnical experience, with energy infrastructure exposure.
• Pr. Eng. registration with ECSA.
• Experience with numerical modeling software (PLAXIS, FLAC).

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to assess bearing capacity, settlement, and slope stability.
• Design foundations for energy structures (shallow and deep).
• Develop ground improvement strategies and remediation techniques.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice and support to project teams, contractors, and clients.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent firm in the energy sector , is seeking a distinguished Senior Geotechnical Engineer to bolster their team in Welkom . This role is central to assessing subsurface conditions and providing critical design recommendations for energy infrastructure projects, including power plants, transmission lines, and renewable energy installations. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of geotechnical investigations, from site characterization to the design of foundations and earthworks. This hybrid position allows for close collaboration with project teams while offering flexibility, ensuring optimal performance and project delivery within the Free State region.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee comprehensive geotechnical investigations , including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.

• Design foundations for a variety of energy structures, including shallow and deep foundations.
• Develop ground improvement strategies and recommend appropriate remediation techniques.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.

• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA.
