Placements24 is seeking a senior Geophysicist specializing in seismic interpretation for a major Oil & Gas client in Welkom, Free State, ZA. You will analyze seismic data, integrate with logs, build subsurface models and support exploration decisions with robust technical reports.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in Geophysics, 6+ years of experience, and proficiency with Petrel, Kingdom Suite or OpendTect.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional seismic interpretation experience.
• Experience in hydrocarbon exploration is preferred.
• Proficiency with seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed seismic interpretation to identify hydrocarbon reservoirs.

About the Role

Our client, a significant entity in the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking an accomplished Geophysicist with specialized expertise in Seismic Interpretation to join their dedicated team in Welkom, Free State, ZA . This crucial role involves the analysis and interpretation of seismic data to identify hydrocarbon-bearing structures and support exploration and development activities. You will play a key part in evaluating subsurface geological models and providing critical insights that guide our exploration strategies and investment decisions. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of geophysical principles, and proficiency in modern seismic interpretation software. Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed seismic data processing and interpretation to identify and delineate potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• Integrate seismic data with well logs, core data, and other geological information to build robust subsurface models.
• Conduct amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis and other attribute studies to assess reservoir properties and fluid content.
• Apply advanced seismic interpretation techniques, including seismic inversion and 3D visualization.
• Collaborate closely with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers to optimize exploration and development plans.
• Evaluate and recommend prospectivity for new exploration opportunities.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and present findings to management and joint venture partners.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the company's geological and geophysical databases.
• Stay current with advancements in geophysical technologies and interpretation methodologies.
• Ensure data quality control and adhere to company standards for seismic interpretation.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in seismic interpretation, preferably within the Oil & Gas exploration sector.
• Proficiency in industry-standard seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, OpendTect).
• Strong understanding of seismic acquisition, processing, and data analysis techniques.
• Experience with 2D and 3D seismic interpretation, seismic attribute analysis, and velocity modeling.
• Knowledge of structural geology and sedimentology relevant to hydrocarbon exploration.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment in Welkom .
• Experience with data management and quality assurance procedures.
