About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity in the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking a highly skilled Geophysical Interpreter to join their exploration team based in Paarl, Western Cape. This role is fundamental to the identification and evaluation of subsurface structures and potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. The Geophysical Interpreter will be responsible for analyzing seismic data, integrating it with geological information, and producing detailed interpretations that guide exploration and development activities. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for collaboration and on-site work while providing flexibility. The role is crucial for maximizing the success rate of exploration ventures.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data to identify geological structures, stratigraphic features, and potential hydrocarbon traps.
• Integrate seismic interpretations with well log data, core data, and other geological information.
• Perform amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis and other advanced seismic attribute studies.
• Generate structural and stratigraphic maps, cross-sections, and other visualization products.
• Collaborate with exploration geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers to build integrated subsurface models.
• Contribute to prospect risking and volumetric assessments.
• Utilize geophysical software packages (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, Hampson-Russell) for data processing and interpretation.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal reviews and management.
• Stay current with new geophysical technologies and methodologies in the Oil & Gas industry.
• Participate in field development planning and drilling campaign reviews.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geophysics, Geology, or a related geoscience discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in geophysical interpretation within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proven proficiency in interpreting various types of seismic data (2D, 3D, time-lapse).
• Strong understanding of seismic processing principles and their impact on interpretation.
• Expertise in using major geophysical interpretation software packages.
• Solid knowledge of structural geology and stratigraphy.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex geological concepts.
• Experience working in a hybrid environment, balancing office and remote work effectively.
• Familiarity with the geology of the region is a plus.
