Job summary

Canadian power systems manufacturer is seeking an experienced Generator Technician to join its Field Service team. You will diagnose, maintain and repair diesel and natural-gas generator sets, switchgear, ATS, and control panels at customer sites.

The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years' experience servicing generators, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, and the ability to read wiring diagrams and PLC logic. Travel 75–90% of the time, including international assignments.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years' experience servicing generators or power-system equipment in industrial/commercial environments
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Experience with engines, alternators and electrical distribution
  • PLC troubleshooting and ability to read ladder logic
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics
  • Experience with ATS/switchgear is an advantage
  • Experience with generator OEMs such as Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac or MTU is an advantage
  • Technical Diploma/Associate's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or related field
  • Trade certification such as Industrial Electrician, Heavy-Duty Mechanic or Millwright is an advantage
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, maintain and repair diesel and natural-gas generator sets
  • Install and commission generator sets, switchgear/ATS and control panels
  • Perform load-bank testing and performance verification
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and control-system problems
  • Work with PLCs, HMIs and digital generator controls
  • Read wiring diagrams, single-line drawings and P&IDs
  • Work with OEM equipment and service documentation
  • Support FAT/SAT and site commissioning
  • Complete service reports and work orders
  • Maintain high safety and quality standards
  • Participate in after-hours/on-call rotations
  • Travel extensively to customer sites

Job description

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada – Head Office & customer sites

Employment: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: CA$78,000 – CA$114,400 per year (based on CA$37.50–CA$55.00/hour, depending on experience)

ABOUT TE OPPORTUNITY

A Canadian power systems manufacturer is looking for an experienced Generator Technician to join its Field Service team.

The successful candidate will work with diesel and natural-gas generator systems, switchgear/ATS, control systems and associated power-generation equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Generator Technician, Industrial Electrician, Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Millwright or similar professional with experience in industrial power systems.

  • Diagnose, maintain and repair diesel and natural-gas generator sets
  • Install and commission generator sets, switchgear/ATS and control panels
  • Perform load-bank testing and performance verification
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and control-system problems
  • Work with PLCs, HMIs and digital generator controls
  • Read wiring diagrams, single-line drawings and P&IDs

The position requires a willingness to travel approximately 75–90% of the time, including domestic and international travel with multi-night stays.
