Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Accountant to join a remote-first team based in Johannesburg, Gauteng, with flexibility for candidates across South Africa.

You will handle financial statement preparation, ledger management, and timelines for month-end/year-end closings while ensuring compliance with GAAP/IFRS and tax laws. The position emphasizes accuracy, automation, and strong collaboration with auditors and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA) is highly desirable.
• Proven experience as an Accountant or similar role.
• Knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting.
• Proficiency with accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, SAP) and advanced Excel.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Must be legally eligible to work remotely in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flows).
• Manage general ledger activities with accuracy and completeness.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Reconcile bank statements and other accounts regularly.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and tax laws.
• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closings.
• Liaise with auditors during financial audits.
• Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls.
