Job summary

Icebolethu Group in Durban seeks a dynamic Fleet Assistant Manager to support the Fleet Manager in daily operations for our hearses, passenger, commercial, and support vehicles. The role focuses on availability, maintenance scheduling, regulatory compliance, and cost control across the fleet.

Responsibilities include coordinating movements, supervising drivers, ensuring legal compliance, and reporting on KPI performance.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Fleet Management, Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in fleet operations.
• At least 2 years of proven supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing medium-to-large commercial vehicle fleets.
• Strong proficiency with fleet management software and telematics systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily fleet movements, vehicle transfers, allocations, and de-fleeting across all business units to ensure maximum fleet availability.
• Oversee preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, vehicle inspections, breakdown responses, and warranty claims through approved service providers.
• Manage fleet drivers, monitor driving behavior, enforce policy adherence, track PDP/license renewals, and conduct accident investigations.
• Ensure full compliance with the Road Traffic Act, OHS regulations, vehicle licensing, permits, insurance, and company SOPs.
• Monitor operating costs (fuel, tires, repairs, rentals), review vendor invoices prior to payment, and assist in budget preparation.
• Monitor vendor performance against SLAs, maintain accurate fleet databases, and compile weekly/monthly operational KPI reports.

In this pivotal leadership role, you will support the Fleet Manager in overseeing daily fleet operations—driving vehicle availability, regulatory compliance, cost control, maintenance scheduling, vendor SLAs, and driver supervision across our fleet of hearses, passenger, commercial, and support vehicles to ensure seamless operational excellence.
