Job summary

Communicate Recruitment in Johannesburg is seeking an Assistant Financial Manager to lead the financial accounting function, ensuring accuracy, integrity and efficiency of all financial operations.

You will own the General Ledger, drive month-end close, manage high-volume accounts payable and receivable, and mentor the finance team while driving process improvements and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years' operational accounting experience.
• Bilingual in Afrikaans and English.
• Proven experience in high-volume transaction environments.
• Strong exposure to month-end reporting and General Ledger ownership.
• Solid experience managing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and cashflow.
• Advanced reconciliation and financial control experience.
• Strong ERP systems experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving and investigative abilities.
• Comfortable working under pressure and delivering accurate results within tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the General Ledger, ensuring the accuracy of all financial transactions
• Prepare monthly management accounts, journals, accruals and provisions
• Take full ownership of balance sheet integrity and investigate variances to resolution
• Lead high-volume Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
• Manage reconciliations across bank, GL, debtors, creditors, intercompany and control accounts
• Drive month-end close processes and ensure timely, accurate reporting
• Strengthen financial controls and maintain audit readiness
• Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency gains and process improvements
• Partner closely with operational teams to support business performance and financial integrity
• Coach, mentor and develop the finance team while driving accountability and continuous improvement
