Job Summary
The Finance Director is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership to the organisation and ensuring effective financial management, governance and control. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Finance Director supports the development and delivery of the organisation’s strategy, drives financial performance and safeguards the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the finance function, ensuring high standards of financial management and governance
- Develop and implement the organisation’s financial strategy in line with overall business objectives
- Provide strategic financial advice and insight to the Board and executive leadership team
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, long-term financial planning and performance management
- Ensure the production of accurate, timely management accounts and statutory financial statements
- Maintain compliance with UK accounting standards, tax legislation and regulatory requirements
- Oversee cash flow, treasury management, funding arrangements and banking relationships
- Lead mergers, acquisitions, disposals and investment appraisal activities, where applicable
- Identify and manage financial risks, ensuring appropriate controls and mitigation strategies are in place
- Lead the external audit process and manage relationships with auditors, advisers and regulators
- Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes and controls
- Support business growth, transformation and change initiatives
- May require additional hours during critical reporting, transaction and strategic planning periods
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Extensive senior leadership experience in a finance role
- Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting, governance and compliance
- Proven experience working at Board level and influencing senior stakeholders
