Placements24 seeks a Telecoms Field Engineer based in Vereeniging to install, maintain, and troubleshoot telecoms infrastructure including fiber optics, towers, and related equipment. You will ensure optimal performance and reliability of network assets on-site, resolving issues and implementing upgrades.

The role requires a proactive approach, strong technical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and quality service delivery in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• Diploma or relevant certification in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years’ field engineering or technician experience in telecoms.
• Experience with fiber optic installation and testing or wireless network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test and maintain telecoms equipment (routers, switches, antennas, base stations).
• Perform preventive maintenance on network infrastructure in Vereeniging area.
• Diagnose and resolve network faults and service interruptions promptly.
• Operate OTDRs and spectrum analyzers for testing and repair.
• Adhere to safety regulations, company policies and environmental standards.
• Document field activities including site surveys and maintenance logs.
• Collaborate with project managers and field teams to complete projects.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• National Diploma or relevant certification in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• 3-5 years of experience as a field engineer or technician in the telecommunications industry.
• Proficiency in fiber optic cable installation and testing, or experience with wireless network infrastructure.
• Knowledge of relevant network protocols and technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under pressure.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the designated service area.
