Job summary

BLU by Adcorp SA is seeking a Field Service Engineer to maintain the Infrastructure IP domain for Datacom products in South Africa. The role involves on-site support for firewalls, switches, routers, and NCE Campus NMS, plus upgrades and risk management for customer environments.

You will plan and test hardware/software deployments, monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and participate in security policy testing. Travel within SA is required.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in computer science, engineering, telecommunications, or equivalent.
• Familiar with networks: switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, TCP/IP.
• HCIA/HCIP/HCIE Datacom advantageous; other industry certificates advantageous.
• Willingness to travel within South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Support version updates, upgrades, alarms and risk management for customer firewalls, routers, switches and NCE Campus NMS.
• Design, install, configure, and test hardware, software, operating systems, and system management platforms; define policies.
• Monitor performance and perform tuning; troubleshoot hardware, software, network issues.
• Participate in system upgrades and security policy testing.
• Plan inventory with parts readiness; ensure timely logistics and delivery.
• Provide on-site Troubleshooting and handle major customer issues.
• Travel within South Africa for site visits.

Job description

Take responsibility for the Infrastructure IP domain maintenance of Datacom products

• As the FSE (Field Service Engineer), support the version update, upgrade, warning, and risk handling of customers' firewalls, routers, switches, and NCE Campus NMS (Network Management System).
• Support version updates, upgrades, alarm management, and risk mitigation for customers' firewalls, routers, switches, and NCE Campus NMS.
• Handle major customer issues and visit sites for on-site troubleshooting.
• Plan, execute, and oversee the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of hardware, software, operating systems, and system management platforms; define system and operational policies and procedures.
• Perform system monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning.
• Troubleshoot system hardware, software, network, and system management issues.
• Actively participate in system and software upgrades and enhancements.
• Test and evaluate new software and security policies.
• Identify utilization patterns and their effects on operations, system availability, and performance.
• Maintain a balanced inventory aligned with service department requirements; collaborate with Operations Managers to ensure timely parts turnaround.
• Deliver excellent service support and ensure smooth logistics to minimize order-to-delivery lead times.
• Ensure customer technicians are adequately supplied with all required parts and materials.

Major Compulsory Responsibilities

• To be part of designing strategies for backups wherever is applicable.
• To be part of having the policies and procedures in place for security of the systems.
• Have the documentation is well in place and maintained for any troubleshooting mechanisms.

Acquisition & Deployment

• Through monitoring and update the systems with the patches and required version
• To support in terms of hardware and software requirements and availability during the deployment phases.

Operational Management

• Daily checking of any alarms posted and plan for resolutions.
• Operations and Maintenance of all the datacom devices in the data center.

Require expertise in the following areas for operations.

• Excellent knowledge of Firewall switches, routers and NMS systems
• Network Security Knowledge
• Good troubleshooting skills

Required Education / Qualifications:

• Degree or diploma in computer science or Engineering /Telecommunications or equivalent.
• Familiar with Network, Switch, Router, Firewall, VXlans, TCP/IP protocol and etc
• HCIA/HCIP/HCIE Datacom advantageous
• Other Industry certificates advantageous
• should possess good Communication, Behavior and Customer centric skills
• Willingness to travel (with in South Africa)

• Must be adept in use of related systems and other systems. Particularly in functionality of Telecom. Hands on Excel and Word, and ideally Access or similar database to basic level, Internet andemail.
