Job summary

Canon EMEA is seeking a Field Service Engineer in Centurion to install, maintain, and repair Canon wide format inkjet printers and related workflow software. The role demands strong technical expertise in inkjet, UV and solvent printing, plus ONYX workflow knowledge.

You will configure networks, train operators, and ensure maximum uptime while delivering high levels of customer service. Travel to customer sites is required, and you will liaise with Canon support and product specialists.

Qualifications

  • Technician-level diploma or higher in electronics or mechatronics.
  • 3–5 years field service experience with production or wide format printing.
  • Proven experience with inkjet, UV and solvent printing platforms.
  • Experience configuring ONYX workflow software and RIP environments.
  • Knowledge of colour management and ICC profiling.
  • Willingness to travel and work on customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and commission Canon wide format printers at customer sites.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs per specifications.
  • Diagnose print quality issues and perform printhead alignments.
  • Support UV and solvent systems and curing setups.
  • Manage ONYX workflow configurations and media/colour profiles.
  • Provide on-site training and liaise with Canon support.

Job description

Job DescriptionThe Canon Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and support of Canon wide format printing solutions and related workflow software. The role requires strong technical expertise in inkjet printing technology, including UV and solvent printing systems, as well as proficiency in ONYX workflow and colour management solutions will be beneficial. The engineer will deliver exceptional customer service while ensuring maximum equipment uptime and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
Equipment Installation & Commissioning
  • Install, configure, and commission Canon wide format inkjet printers and associated finishing equipment.
  • Conduct customer handovers, operator training, and workflow setup.
  • Configure network connectivity and integrate printers into customer production environments.
  • Ensure all installations comply with Canon technical and quality standards.
Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, firmware, and software-related faults.
  • Replace and calibrate components including printheads, carriage assemblies, curing systems, ink delivery systems, and media handling mechanisms.
  • Maintain detailed service records and reports for all customer visits.
Wide Format Inkjet Expertise
  • Provide technical support on Canon wide format inkjet platforms.
  • Diagnose print quality issues including banding, colour inconsistency, nozzle dropouts, ink adhesion, media handling, and alignment problems.
  • Perform printhead alignments, colour calibrations, and system optimisations.
  • Assist customers in maximizing productivity and output quality.
UV & Solvent Printing Support
  • Support UV flatbed, UV roll-to-roll, and solvent-based printing systems.
  • Troubleshoot UV curing systems, lamp assemblies, ink chemistry, media compatibility, and environmental factors affecting print performance.
  • Optimize machine performance for various substrates and production applications.
  • Provide technical expertise on colour profiling and application-specific printing requirements.
ONYX Workflow Management
  • Install, configure, and support ONYX RIP and workflow software.
  • Create and manage media profiles, colour profiles, and printer configurations.
  • Troubleshoot workflow integration issues between ONYX, printers, and customer network environments.
  • Train customers on job management, nesting, colour management, and workflow best practices.
  • Support PDF workflows, job automation, and production optimisation.
Customer Support
  • Respond to service calls within established SLA requirements.
  • Deliver high levels of customer satisfaction through professional communication and technical expertise.
  • Provide technical recommendations for upgrades, consumables, and workflow improvements.

Liaise with Canon technical support teams and product specialists when required.

Qualifications
  • Technical Diploma, National Diploma, Trade Qualification, or equivalent in:
    • Electronics
    • Electromechanical Engineering
    • Mechatronics
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work at customer sites.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a Field Service Engineer supporting production printing or wide format printing equipment.
  • Experience with Canon, Océ, Arizona, Colorado, or equivalent wide format printing platforms.
  • Proven experience supporting inkjet printing technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with UV and solvent printing systems.
  • Experience configuring and supporting ONYX workflow software.
  • Knowledge of colour management, ICC profiling, and RIP software environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and network-related issues.
