Job summary

Damen in Cape Town is seeking a Field Service Engineer to perform maintenance, repairs, and commissioning on Damen vessels and other ships worldwide. You will supervise construction activities and provide training on ship systems while adapting to local conditions and cultures.

Applicants should have 3+ years in similar roles, strong hydraulics/electrical knowledge, and a pro-active, customer-focused attitude. The role offers an international work environment and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• MBO level working and thinking, WTB trained.
• Excellent English skills; multilingual abilities encouraged (French, Portuguese or Arabic).
• Independent, problem-solving mindset with strong customer focus.
• At least 3 years of relevant field service experience.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical systems.
• Familiarity with safety systems and inspections on vessels.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting, maintenance, overhaul and installation on Damen vessels and others.
• Support local shipyards in ship commissioning.
• Training for third parties on operation and maintenance of ships.
• Prepare project reports and perform administrative tasks.

The department implements the concept of high quality and the generally higher purchase costs.By providing high-quality services even after the sale of a vessel, the chances of a customer choosing Damen again when replacing a vessel or expanding a fleet are increased.At the operational level, the Services department liaises with customers and acts as the eyes and ears of the sales organization. Services offers a broad portfolio of services for the entire lifecycle of a Damen-built vessel. This includes handling warranty claims, providing training, providing spare parts, providing maintenance, and performing modifications and repairs.This is reflected in the behavior of its employees; They are always available, proactive, keep their promises, and always go above and beyond what is asked of them. Within the Services department, the question is always: How can we make this happen?The roleAs a Field Service Engineer, you will carry out maintenance and repair work. You will supervise during construction and perform operational commissioning tasks. You will provide training for ships and ship systems at locations around the world, taking into account local conditions, cultures and customs, and ensure that the ships are kept in optimal operational condition.ResponsibilitiesIf you like the following, then this is your role!Troubleshooting and carrying out maintenance, overhaul and installation work related to mechanical, electrical engineering and process engineering on all relevant installations on both Damen vessels and other vessels;Supporting local shipyards in the operational commissioning of ships;Instructing/providing training to third parties regarding the operation, use and maintenance of ships;Performing administrative tasks and preparing project reports.Skills & ExperienceYou have:MBO working and thinking level, WTB trained.Good verbal and written command of English;Preferable speaking: French, Portuguese or Arabic:Independent personality with problem-solving skills and a high degree of customer focus;At least 3 years of relevant work experience.Knowledge of:Hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical engineering;Electrical installations, pressure equipment, internal combustion engines;Knowledge of safety systems such as gas detection, ESD and mechanical pressure protection;Inspection, testing and maintenance; Control and PLC systems;You are:A pragmatic, persuasive Field Service Engineer with a strong personality who fits within a dynamic organization with a hands-on culture;Decisive, structured and at the same time flexible in your approach;Able to persuade and steer, to put things in perspective;The realization that sometimes you have to be patient to get results;Able to manage expectations.What we offerWe want to make sure you are happy in your role, so we will support you to develop yourself in this role.
