Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly motivated Farm Manager in George (Western Cape) to oversee daily farming operations and drive agricultural innovation. You will lead field teams, manage irrigation, pest control, harvests, and record-keeping while collaborating with agronomists and technical advisors.

Ideal candidates hold a relevant degree, have 5+ years in farm management, and demonstrated leadership in crop production.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in farm management focused on crop production.
• Proven ability to plan, execute and supervise farm operations.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Experience with modern farm technologies and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual crop production plans, including selection of varieties, planting schedules, and resource allocation.
• Oversee all field operations, ensuring efficient and timely execution of tasks such as land preparation, planting, cultivation, and harvesting.
• Manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal water use and crop health.
• Implement integrated pest and disease management strategies to minimize crop loss and environmental impact.
• Supervise, train, and motivate a team of farm workers, ensuring adherence to work schedules and quality standards.
• Monitor crop development and health, making timely interventions as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on the farm.
• Manage farm equipment and machinery, overseeing maintenance and repair schedules.
• Oversee harvesting operations to ensure maximum yield and quality.
• Maintain accurate records of farm activities, inputs, yields, and costs.
• Collaborate with agronomists and technical experts to adopt new technologies and best practices.
