About the Role

Our client, a leading agricultural enterprise located near George, Western Cape , is seeking a dynamic and experienced Farm Manager to oversee their expansive operations focused on sustainable crop production. This is a hands-on role requiring a deep understanding of modern agricultural techniques, crop science, and efficient farm management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the farm, ensuring optimal crop yields, resource efficiency, and adherence to the highest standards of environmental stewardship and quality control. You will lead a dedicated team, manage operational budgets, and implement innovative strategies to enhance productivity and profitability. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive crop production plans, including planting schedules, fertilization programs, pest and disease management strategies, and harvesting operations.
• Oversee all aspects of farm operations, including land preparation, irrigation systems, machinery maintenance, and labor management.
• Manage and motivate a team of farm workers, ensuring efficient task allocation, training, and adherence to safety protocols.
• Monitor crop growth, health, and yield, implementing corrective actions as needed to maximize output and quality.
• Control operational costs and manage the farm budget effectively, seeking opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural regulations, environmental standards, and food safety requirements.
• Maintain detailed records of all farm activities, including planting, spraying, harvesting, and financial transactions.
• Implement and promote sustainable farming practices to conserve natural resources and minimize environmental impact.
• Liaise with suppliers, agronomists, and other agricultural professionals to ensure access to the best inputs and technical support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
• A National Diploma in Agriculture will also be considered with significant relevant experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in farm management or a similar supervisory role within the agricultural sector, preferably in crop production.
• Demonstrable knowledge of crop science, soil management, pest control, and irrigation techniques specific to the Western Cape climate and conditions.
• Strong understanding of farm machinery operation and maintenance.
• Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate staff.
• Excellent organizational and planning abilities, with strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in farm management software and record-keeping systems.
• Knowledge of sustainable agriculture principles and practices.
