Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 9 years of experience in facilities engineering within oil and gas.
• Strong project management including cost estimation and scheduling.
• Knowledge of process design, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and materials science.
• Knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA) and environmental compliance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the facilities engineering team in the design and modification of production facilities.
• Develop and implement engineering standards, specifications, and procedures.
• Manage capital projects from conception through to commissioning, ensuring budget and schedule adherence.
• Provide technical support for plant operations, troubleshooting issues and optimizing performance.
• Oversee the integrity management of all facility assets, including pipelines, vessels, and rotating equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and calculations.
• Manage external engineering contractors and consultants.
• Mentor and develop junior facilities engineers.
• Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and turnaround planning.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Facilities Engineering Lead to oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of their production facilities. This role is based in Vereeniging, Gauteng and offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining office-based work with remote flexibility. You will lead a team of engineers responsible for ensuring the integrity, safety, and efficiency of all onshore facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical or process engineering, coupled with extensive experience in project management and operational support within the oil and gas sector. You will be instrumental in developing engineering standards, managing capital projects, and troubleshooting complex facility issues. This position requires excellent leadership skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external contractors.
