Placements24 is seeking an experienced Exploration Geologist for a role based in Cape Town, Western Cape. You will perform subsurface analysis, seismic interpretation, well-log integration, and basin modeling to identify exploration targets.

The position demands rigorous scientific methods and strong teamwork. The ideal candidate holds a geology degree with 6+ years in Oil & Gas exploration, and is proficient in Petrel/GeoGraphix/Kingdom Suite, with solid communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences is required.
• Master's or PhD focused on petroleum geology or exploration preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on exploration geology experience in Oil & Gas.
• Proficiency with seismic interpretation software (Petrel, GeoGraphix, KingdomSuite).

Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic data to delineate structures and identify hydrocarbon traps.
• Integrate seismic, well logs, core data, gravity and magnetics into subsurface models.
• Conduct basin analysis including sedimentology, stratigraphy and structural geology.
• Evaluate exploration opportunities, risks and estimate resources.
• Prepare and present geological reports to management and JV partners.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers, geophysicists and petrophysicists.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.

• A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in exploration geology within the Oil & Gas sector.
• Demonstrated expertise in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix, Kingdom Suite).
• Strong knowledge of sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, and basin analysis principles.
• Experience with prospect generation and risking methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex geological concepts clearly.
