Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Electrical Infrastructure Engineer in Sandton to lead large-scale power projects, overseeing design, planning and execution with a focus on delivering safe, reliable, and compliant electrical networks. The role combines strategic leadership with client engagement and site oversight.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), Pr. Eng registration, 15+ years in the field, and proven experience guiding complex substations

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Pr. Eng registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in electrical infrastructure engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior/principal role.
• Demonstrated experience leading major power system projects (substations, transmission, distribution).
• Expertise in power system modelling and simulation software (PSS/E, PowerFactory, ETAP).
• Strong knowledge of generation technologies, grid codes and regulations.
• Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership in the design and development of large-scale electrical infrastructure projects.
• Oversee planning, feasibility studies, and conceptual design of power systems, substations and distribution networks.
• Conduct advanced power system analysis, including stability studies, load forecasting, and grid integration assessments.
• Develop and review technical specifications, tender documents, and project execution plans.
• Manage project risk, quality, and technical compliance throughout the lifecycle.
• Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technical specialists.
• Represent the company in client meetings, technical forums, and stakeholder consultations.
• Ensure designs and projects comply with all relevant national and international codes, standards, and regulations.
• Contribute to business development activities and the preparation of proposals.
