Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a prominent mining house in Bloemfontein, Free State, in recruiting a Senior Mining Operations Manager to lead all mining activities in the region. The role demands extensive technical leadership, strategic vision, and a track record of improving safety, efficiency and profitability.

You will oversee multi-disciplinary teams, manage large-scale operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across underground and open-pit environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 12 years progressive mining operations experience.
• Experience in underground and open-pit environments preferred.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA highly desirable.
• Strong leadership, communication and safety management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day mining operations, ensuring safety, environmental, and production targets.
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans to optimize resources and profitability.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of mining professionals.
• Ensure compliance with South African mining legislation, regulations and policies.
• Manage budgets, control costs and identify efficiency gains.
• Foster a strong safety culture with robust health and safety systems.
• Collaborate with maintenance, metallurgy, and exploration for integrated success.
• Oversee deployment and maintenance of mining equipment and technology.
• Represent the company with regulators, local communities, and industry bodies.
• Drive innovation and adoption of best practices for performance and sustainability.
