Placements24 is seeking a Chief Mine Geologist to lead the geological team and operations near Benoni. This senior role oversees exploration, resource definition, grade control, and reconciliation to ensure accurate resource estimation and strategic exploration guidance.

The successful candidate will bring extensive leadership in mining geology, a strong track record in modeling software, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Economic Geology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine geology, with at least 5 years in a senior or supervisory role.
• Extensive experience with resource and reserve estimation, geological modeling software, and geostatistics.
• Proven track record in managing geological teams and projects within operational mining environments.
• Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the mine geology department, including supervision of geologists, technicians, and support staff.
• Oversee the implementation of geological models, resource estimation, and grade control protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Develop and execute strategic exploration and appraisal programs to identify and define new mineral resources.
• Ensure effective ore body modeling and mine-to-mill reconciliation processes are in place.
• Provide expert geological advice and input into mine planning, design, and operational decision-making.
• Maintain high standards of geological data management, QA/QC, and reporting.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to environmental and regulatory requirements within the geology department.
