About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative and experienced Energy Storage Solutions Engineer to join their team in Upington , a key region for renewable energy development in South Africa . This role focuses on the design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for grid-scale, commercial, and industrial applications. You will work closely with project developers, electrical engineers, and system operators to ensure the effective performance, reliability, and safety of storage solutions. The position requires a strong understanding of battery technologies, power electronics, grid integration, and control systems. Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify battery energy storage systems (BESS) , including battery modules, inverters, and control systems.
• Perform system sizing calculations, energy yield assessments, and grid impact studies for storage projects.
• Develop control strategies and algorithms for BESS to optimize performance, manage grid services, and ensure safety.
• Collaborate with project teams during the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and commissioning phases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to BESS performance and integration.
• Stay abreast of advancements in energy storage technologies , including different battery chemistries and power conversion systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, integration, or operation of energy storage systems .
• Strong knowledge of battery chemistries (e.g., Li-ion), power electronics converters, and grid interconnection standards.
• Proficiency with simulation tools for BESS performance modeling and grid integration studies.
• Understanding of renewable energy project development and grid operations.
