Job summary

Our client, an established electrical engineering and contracting organisation in South Africa, seeks an Electrical Estimator to prepare cost estimates and competitive tenders. You will interpret drawings, perform take-offs, price BOQs and manage supplier quotations to meet tight deadlines.

You will liaise with engineering, procurement and project teams, improve estimating methods, and ensure accuracy and consistency across tenders while travelling to project sites as required.

Qualifications

• National Diploma, BTech or Degree in Electrical Engineering with 35+ years' experience in estimating, tendering or costing.
• Proven experience preparing professional electrical tenders.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction and engineering practices.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and BOQs.
• Experience with material take-offs and electrical quantity surveying.
• Knowledge of supplier/subcontractor pricing and tender adjudication.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office; CCS Candy or estimating software is advantageous.
• Knowledge of electrical standards, contracts and regulations; valid driver's licence and travel readiness.

Our client is a well-established engineering and contracting organisation delivering electrical engineering, construction and infrastructure solutions to clients across South Africa. Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded electrical professional who enjoys working with tenders, technical documentation, cost analysis and project pricing.

The Role

The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive and commercially viable estimates and tenders for electrical projects. The successful candidate will interpret drawings and specifications, complete quantity take-offs, obtain and evaluate supplier/subcontractor quotations, and ensure tenders are submitted accurately and within strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates for projects and tenders.
• Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.
• Perform accurate material and quantity take-offs . Compile, review and price Bills of Quantities (BOQs) . Develop detailed labour, material, equipment, subcontractor and installation costs.
• Request and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Conduct commercial adjudication of supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Analyse pricing, project requirements, risks and cost assumptions.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks and potential cost-saving opportunities.
• Prepare competitive tender submissions in accordance with client requirements.
• Prepare tender clarifications, qualifications, assumptions and exclusions where required.
• Liaise with engineering, procurement, project management and construction teams.
• Attend tender clarification meetings and site visits where required.
• Assist with technical and commercial evaluations during the tender process.
• Maintain accurate estimating databases, pricing schedules and historical cost information.
• Ensure tender documentation is complete, accurate and submitted within deadlines.
• Support post-tender negotiations and handover to project teams.
• Continuously improve estimating methods, costing accuracy and pricing benchmarks.

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma, BTech or Degree in Electrical Engineering , 35+ years' experience in electrical estimating, tendering or project costing.
• Proven experience preparing professional electrical tenders.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction and engineering practices.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and BOQs.
• Experience with material take-offs and electrical quantity surveying.
• Strong knowledge of supplier and subcontractor pricing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office .
• Experience with CCS Candy or other estimating software would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of electrical standards, specifications and construction contracts would be beneficial.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites where required.
