About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity in the mining and minerals processing sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join their operations in Polokwane, Limpopo . This vital role involves overseeing the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems for large-scale mining and processing facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, motor control systems, and automation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the unique electrical challenges within the mining industry, coupled with strong project management and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical engineering activities for mining and mineral processing projects, from conceptual design to commissioning and operational support. Design and specify electrical distribution systems, substations, motor control centers (MCCs), and variable speed drives (VSDs) for heavy industrial applications. Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control system architecture. Ensure all electrical installations and operations comply with stringent mining safety regulations (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act) and industry standards. Oversee the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, implementing predictive and preventative maintenance strategies. Manage electrical project budgets, schedules, and procurement processes. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior electrical engineers and technicians. Conduct electrical hazard identification and risk assessments. Liaise with equipment suppliers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical engineering within the mining or heavy industrial sector. Proven experience with high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) power distribution, motor control, and industrial automation systems (PLC, SCADA). In-depth knowledge of mining electrical regulations and safety standards. Experience with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP). Strong project management skills, including budget and schedule control. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a remote or challenging operational environment.
