Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Technician in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, to join a reputable power infrastructure consultancy. Qualifications

• 3 years of electrical design experience, preferably in power distribution or utilities.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or comparable CAD software for electrical design.
• Familiar with South African electrical standards (SANS) and utilities practices.
• Detail-oriented with accuracy in technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical design drawings for power distribution, single-line diagrams, schematics, and layouts.
• Prepare specifications for transformers, switchgear, cables, and protective devices.
• Perform basic electrical calculations under supervision of senior engineers.
• Coordinate with disciplines to ensure design consistency and project alignment.
• Maintain and update design documentation for accuracy.
• Assist in site surveys and data gathering; verify existing conditions.
• Support tender prep and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Assist construction phase with technical queries and shop drawing reviews.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations and client specs.

About the Role

Our client is a reputable consultancy firm specializing in power infrastructure development across the Western Cape. They are looking for a meticulous Electrical Design Technician to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This role is integral to the design and documentation of power distribution networks, substations, and associated electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with Electrical Engineers, providing essential technical support in the creation of detailed design drawings and specifications. Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of electrical design drawings for power distribution systems, including single-line diagrams, schematics, and layouts using CAD software.
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, cables, and protective devices.
• Conduct basic electrical calculations and verifications under the supervision of senior engineers.
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines, ensuring consistency and adherence to project requirements.
• Maintain and update design documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Perform site surveys and inspections to gather data and verify existing conditions as required.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Support the project team during the construction phase by responding to technical queries and reviewing shop drawings.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and client specifications.

Requirements

• National Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Light or Heavy Current).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical design, preferably within power distribution or utility projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other relevant CAD software for electrical design.
• Familiarity with South African electrical standards (SANS) and utility practices.
• Basic understanding of power system analysis concepts.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in producing technical documentation.
• Good organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A valid driver's license is advantageous for site visits.
