Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for their Port Elizabeth operations to design power distribution systems, develop detailed schematics, and support project execution across infrastructure sectors.

You will perform load flow analyses, specify equipment, and ensure compliance with SA and international standards while working with a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design, focusing on power distribution.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, or similar.
• Strong understanding of power systems analysis and protection.
• Knowledge of SANS and other SA electrical codes.
• Experience with medium and low voltage systems.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a project team.
• ECSA registration (Pr.Eng or Candidate) desirable.
• Based in or relocation to Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical power distribution systems, including substations, switchgear, and cabling.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layouts using CAD software.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and short-circuit studies.
• Specify electrical equipment and materials, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
• Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, and construction drawings.
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and architectural disciplines for integrated design.
• Conduct site visits for condition assessments and construction support.
• Review contractor submittals and ensure design intent compliance.
• Ensure adherence to SANS, IEC, and other relevant standards.
• Assist in commissioning and testing of electrical installations.
