Placements24, on behalf of a prominent architectural and engineering consultancy, is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to its Building Services division in Pretoria. The role focuses on designing and specifying electrical systems for commercial, residential, and public buildings within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical building services design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or other 3D modeling software.
• Knowledge of SA electrical regs and building codes.
• Experience with lighting design and emergency power systems.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for buildings including power distribution and lighting.
• Prepare design drawings, specifications and tender documents using CAD and BIM.
• Conduct site surveys, inspections and commissioning of installations.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS and client requirements.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers for integrated building designs.
• Provide technical support during construction and respond to site queries.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent architectural and engineering consultancy, is seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to their Building Services division in Pretoria . This role focuses on the design and specification of electrical systems for a variety of commercial, residential, and public buildings. You will work within a talented multidisciplinary team, ensuring that electrical installations are safe, efficient, compliant, and meet the aesthetic and functional requirements of modern architectural projects. The hybrid model allows for collaborative design sessions in the office and focused work from home.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical systems for buildings, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and tender documents using CAD and BIM software.
• Conduct site surveys, inspections, and commissioning of electrical installations.
• Ensure designs comply with national building regulations, electrical codes (e.g., SANS), and client requirements.
• Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and mechanical engineers to ensure integrated building designs.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase and respond to site queries.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical building services design .
• Proficiency in AutoCAD , Revit MEP, or other relevant 3D modeling and design software.
• Solid understanding of electrical regulations, standards, and building codes in South Africa.
• Experience with lighting design, power quality, and emergency power systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with good communication skills.
