Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design & Commissioning Engineer for their team in Soweto, Gauteng. The role focuses on designing, installing and handing over electrical systems for solar power projects, including single-line diagrams, cable sizing and protection settings.

You will lead on-site commissioning and testing to ensure installations meet design specifications and safety standards, while liaising with project teams and clients to drive successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years experience in electrical design and/or commissioning, preferably in renewable energy.
• Familiarity with SANS/IEC codes and safety standards.
• Experience with electrical testing and commissioning procedures.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical design drawings and specifications for solar PV systems (AC & DC).
• Perform cable sizing calculations, fault level analysis, and protection coordination.
• Select components, switchgear, inverters and monitoring equipment.
• Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and client requirements.
• Plan and execute electrical commissioning activities and on-site testing.
• Prepare commissioning reports, test results and handover documentation.
• Provide technical support during operational phase of projects.
