Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design & Commissioning Engineer for their team in Soweto, Gauteng. The role focuses on designing, installing and handing over electrical systems for solar power projects, including single-line diagrams, cable sizing and protection settings.

You will lead on-site commissioning and testing to ensure installations meet design specifications and safety standards, while liaising with project teams and clients to drive successful project delivery.

Competenze

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years experience in electrical design and/or commissioning, preferably in renewable energy.
• Familiarity with SANS/IEC codes and safety standards.
• Experience with electrical testing and commissioning procedures.

Mansioni

• Perform cable sizing calculations, fault level analysis, and protection coordination.

About the Role

A dynamic renewable energy company is seeking a proactive Electrical Design & Commissioning Engineer to join their team in Soweto, Gauteng . This role is crucial for the successful design, installation, and handover of electrical systems for solar power projects. You will be responsible for electrical design aspects, including single-line diagrams, cable sizing, protection settings, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards. Furthermore, you will play a key role in the on-site commissioning and testing of electrical installations, ensuring they meet design specifications and operational requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical design drawings and specifications for solar PV systems, including AC and DC sides.
• Perform electrical calculations for cable sizing, fault levels, and protection coordination.
• Select appropriate electrical components, switchgear, inverters, and monitoring equipment.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards (e.g., SANS, IEC), and client requirements.
• Plan and execute electrical commissioning activities, including pre-energization checks, testing, and system validation.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues encountered during installation and commissioning phases.
• Liaise with installation teams, project managers, and clients to ensure smooth project execution.
• Prepare commissioning reports, test results, and handover documentation.
• Provide technical support during the operational phase of projects as required.
• Stay updated on the latest developments in solar PV technology and electrical engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical design and/or commissioning, with exposure to renewable energy projects preferred.
• Solid understanding of electrical power systems, AC/DC circuits, and power electronics.
• Familiarity with solar PV system components and design principles.
• Experience with electrical testing and commissioning procedures.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and safety standards.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD) and simulation tools is beneficial.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage on-site activities effectively.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
