Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer for a hybrid role in Sandton, Gauteng. You will develop commissioning plans, perform tests, and resolve issues to ensure safe handover of electrical systems.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in electrical commissioning, solid knowledge of medium/low voltage systems, protection schemes, SCADA, and the ability to interpret technical drawings. Travel to sites and client interaction are involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical commissioning, testing, or field engineering.
• Proven experience with commissioning of medium and low voltage electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical protection systems, control logic, and SCADA operations.
• Proficiency in using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a methodical approach to fault finding.
• Good communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours as required.
• Professional registration (e.g., ECSA) is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive commissioning plans and procedures for electrical systems and equipment.
• Execute pre-commissioning checks, functional tests, and system performance validations.
• Oversee energization and testing of electrical assets, including switchgear, transformers, generators, and control systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults and malfunctions encountered during the commissioning process.
• Liaise with project management, construction teams, clients, and equipment suppliers during commissioning activities.
• Ensure all commissioning activities are conducted in strict accordance with project specifications, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Prepare detailed commissioning reports, including test results, observations, and recommendations.
• Manage the documentation and close-out of commissioning activities.
• Provide technical support and training to operational staff as needed.
• Identify potential improvements to commissioning processes and procedures.
