Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) in Sandton, South Africa is seeking a Business Development Manager for the Surgery - Biosurgery & Breast portfolio. The role drives growth by developing markets, leading distributor teams, and building trusted healthcare stakeholder relationships.

You will lead commercial strategy, demand planning, and partnerships with distributors, government entities, and key opinion leaders to accelerate BD’s presence in SA and SSA markets.

Responsibilities

• Identify growth opportunities within the Surgery portfolio and lead distributor performance management.

About the role

Business Development Manager, Surgery - Biosurgery & Breast portfolio, plays a critical role in accelerating business growth and strengthening through developing the market to adopt the technologies through leading contracted distributor and agencies teams in South Africa and identified markets in SSA.

By leading commercial strategy, and market development initiatives, the role drives customer value, expands market opportunities, and builds trusted relationships with key healthcare stakeholders, distributors, and internal partners.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Establish and strengthen partnerships with key decision-makers, influencers, and opinion leaders across the healthcare ecosystem.
• Own demand planning, inventory forecasting, annual budgeting, and ongoing financial forecasts to ensure accurate sales.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with government entities, the Ministry of Health, key opinion leaders, and healthcare decision-makers to influence healthcare policies, funding priorities, regulatory frameworks, and strengthen the BD brand presence.
• Proactively identify and pursue new growth opportunities within the Surgery portfolio by demonstrating market intelligence, emerging trends, and evolving customer needs.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities to accelerate growth.
• Lead distributor performance management and channel optimization.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Clinical, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to support business objectives.
• Monitor market trends, competitive activities, and customer needs to inform business decisions.
• Ensure compliance with BD policies, quality standards, and ethical business practices.
• Drive execution excellence and foster a high-performance culture.

About you

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, Healthcare, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of sales experience in the medical device, healthcare of South Africa and SSA.
• Dependable, collaborative, committed, and passionate about advancing healthcare outcomes.
• Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple critical initiatives simultaneously.
• Skilled at leading through influence within complex matrix organizations involving internal customers, regional marketing, and clinical teams.
• Exceptional relationship-building capabilities with both internal and external customers, combined with strong networking skills.
• Customer-centric leader dedicated to understanding customer needs, exceeding expectations, and building long-term partnerships.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence customers at all organizational levels.
• Demonstrated ability to inspire, influence, and drive alignment across diverse teams and customer groups.
• Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
• Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and business development skills.
• Experience managing distributors and key accounts.
• Strong analytical, commercial, and strategic thinking capabilities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
