Job summary

TANINT Recruitment is seeking a highly experienced Technical Director to lead Network Planning and Optimization for a major South Africa telecom. This role is Johannesburg-based and will influence strategic decisions across large-scale mobile networks.

You will provide executive-level leadership across multi-technology networks (2G–5G), driving performance, capacity planning and KPI/KQI transformations with a proven track record of measurable improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive telecom network engineering/leadership experience.
• Expertise in GSM, UMTS, LTE, LTE-Advanced and 5G technologies.
• Proven leadership of large-scale KPI/KQI transformation programs.
• Experience managing national or regional network planning and optimization.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute long-term network planning and optimization strategies.
• Lead nationwide or regional network performance improvement programs.
• Drive KPI and KQI improvement initiatives for customer experience and network quality.
• Oversee radio network planning, optimization, capacity management, and technology evolution.
• Lead architecture reviews and modernization strategies for 4G/5G networks.
• Manage cross-functional teams across planning, optimization, and engineering excellence.
• Provide executive-level reporting on network performance, risks, and opportunities.
• Mentor technical leaders and develop high-performing teams.
