About the Role

Our client, a leading national logistics and distribution company, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Delivery Operations Manager to oversee and optimize delivery operations across the Vereeniging, Gauteng region. This pivotal role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and a proven ability to manage a large fleet and diverse team of drivers and logistics personnel. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, timely, and cost‑effective delivery of goods while maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving operational excellence and achieving key performance indicators for our Gauteng-based logistics hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the daily operations of the delivery fleet, including driver scheduling, route optimization, and fleet utilization.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve delivery efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
• Oversee the performance of delivery drivers and logistics staff, providing coaching, training, and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies across the fleet.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on‑time delivery rates, fuel consumption, and operational costs, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Manage relationships with external service providers, including vehicle maintenance and repair vendors.
• Implement and enforce robust safety protocols and accident prevention programs.
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve delivery‑related issues promptly and professionally.
• Manage inventory and resource allocation within the Vereeniging operational hub.
• Collaborate with other departments, including sales, warehousing, and customer service, to ensure seamless operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in logistics, fleet management, or operations management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Proven track record of successfully managing large delivery fleets and diverse operational teams.
• Strong understanding of transportation regulations, safety standards, and supply chain best practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
• Proficiency in using fleet management software, route optimization tools, and ERP systems.
• Experience in budget management and cost control within an operational context.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to drive operational improvements.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Vereeniging, Gauteng, or able to commute reliably.
