Job summary

FNB is seeking a Data Scientist II in Johannesburg to plan, build, and implement quantitative models supporting financial crime analytics. You will work across AML/CFT, transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening with guidance and governance expectations.

You will collaborate with risk, technology, and business teams to translate complex models into actionable insights and provide robust documentation for governance and reproducibility.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in a quantitative field is required.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in developing and implementing analytical models.
• Strong scripting skills in SAS, SQL and Python.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on model development, implementation, and governance for financial crime risk analytics (AML/CFT, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening).
• Translate technical solutions into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Provide clear technical documentation for models and processes and collaborate with business, risk and tech teams.

Education

Honours Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field
