Job summary

FNB South Africa is seeking a Data Scientist II to develop and implement quantitative analytics for financial crime risk. You will deliver modeling, governance and insights, collaborating with risk, technology and business teams to improve compliance and effectiveness.

The role requires an Honours degree in a quantitative field and 2+ years of hands-on experience in analytical modeling, with strong SAS/SQL/Python scripting. Expect rigorous governance and documentation in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Honours degree required in a quantitative field (Math/Stats/CS/Engineering/Physics or related).
• 2+ years hands-on experience developing and implementing analytical models, preferably in financial services.
• Strong scripting skills in SAS, SQL and Python.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on model development, implementation and governance for financial crime analytics (AML/CFT, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening).
• Identify analytical opportunities and solve unstructured problems with minimal guidance.
• Translate technical solutions into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Prepare clear technical documentation for models and processes.
• Collaborate with business, risk and technology teams to drive model effectiveness and compliance.
• Support junior Data Scientists in developing technical and business skills.
• Apply SAS, SQL and Python for data manipulation, modelling and automation.
• Uphold model governance and participate in monitoring and reviews.
