Job summary

FNB is seeking a Data Scientist II to plan, build, and implement quantitative analytical methodologies and advanced mathematical models to support business strategy. You will collaborate across risk, technology, and business teams within the FirstRand group to enhance model effectiveness and governance.

You will apply SAS, SQL and Python scripting for data manipulation, modelling and automation, while mentoring junior data scientists and delivering clear documentation for models and processes.

Qualifications

• Honours degree required or equivalent.
• 2+ years in developing and implementing analytical models.
• Experience with SAS, SQL and Python scripting.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on model development and governance for financial crime analytics (AML/CFT, monitoring, sanctions).
• Identify opportunities and solve unstructured problems with minimal guidance.
• Translate technical work into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Produce technical documentation for models and processes and monitor governance.
