Job summary

FNB Namibia in Johannesburg is seeking a Data Scientist II to plan, build, and implement innovative quantitative analytical models supporting AML/CFT and other financial crime analytics. You will translate complex solutions into actionable insights, document processes, and collaborate with risk, business, and technology teams to ensure governance and compliance.

The role requires an Honours degree in a quantitative field and 2+ years of relevant experience, with strong SAS/SQL/Python scripting

Qualifications

Honours degree in a quantitative field is required.
Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience in developing analytical models.
Experience with SAS, SQL and Python for data manipulation and modelling.

Responsibilities

Deliver on model development, implementation, and governance for financial crime analytics (AML/CFT, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening).
Proactively identify analytical opportunities and solve unstructured problems with minimal guidance.
Translate technical solutions into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
Deliver clear and comprehensive technical documentation for models and processes.
Collaborate with business, risk, and technology teams across FirstRand group to drive model effectiveness and compliance.
Support junior Data Scientists in developing both technical and business skills.
