About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent and proactive Construction Health and Safety Officer to champion safety initiatives on project sites in the Paarl area and surrounding regions. This role is critical in ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel, minimizing risks, and ensuring compliance with all statutory health and safety legislation. You will conduct regular site inspections, develop and implement safety programs, and provide training to site staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety culture and possess excellent observational and communication skills, playing a key role in maintaining the highest safety standards in the construction industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the site-specific health and safety plan .
• Conduct regular site safety inspections, identify hazards, and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, reporting findings and recommending preventative measures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act, Construction Regulations).
• Deliver health and safety induction training and toolbox talks to all site personnel.
• Maintain all health and safety records and documentation as required by law and company policy.
• Advise site management on health and safety matters and promote a positive safety culture.

Requirements

• Registered as a Construction Health and Safety Officer with a relevant professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, NOSA Diploma).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role within the construction sector .
• In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on construction sites.
