Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a vigilant Site Safety Officer to ensure health and safety standards on construction sites across the Durban region. You will lead risk assessments, develop site safety plans, and enforce protocols to protect workers.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years on construction sites, SA OHS Act knowledge, and qualifications such as SAMTRAC or NEBOSH. You will train staff, maintain records, and advise management to foster a safety culture.

About the Role

You will be instrumental in preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive site-specific Health and Safety plans.
• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety inductions and ongoing safety training to all site personnel, including contractors and visitors.
• Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and ensure legal compliance.
• Advise site management on all health and safety matters and promote a positive safety culture throughout the project.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety ("e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH International General Certificate").
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer on construction sites.
• Thorough knowledge of South African OHS Act (Act 85 of 1993) and its regulations.
• Strong understanding of construction processes and associated risks.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and reporting skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
