Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Community Engagement Officer to foster positive relations between mining operations in and around Soweto and local communities. This hybrid role focuses on building trust, addressing concerns, and facilitating communication with community stakeholders, local government, and NGOs.

You will help develop and implement community development programs aligned with social responsibility goals, monitor social risks, and ensure compliance with engagement protocols

Qualifications

• Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
• 3+ years in community liaison, stakeholder engagement, or CSR, preferably in mining.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; SA community experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a community engagement strategy aligned with project timelines.
• Act as main contact for community members, leaders, and organizations.
• Organise meetings, consultations, and feedback sessions.
• Identify and manage community development initiatives and social projects.
• Monitor stakeholder perceptions and social risks; report findings.
• Ensure compliance with social license requirements and engagement protocols.

About the Role

This role is crucial for ensuring sustainable mining practices by building trust, addressing concerns, and facilitating communication with community stakeholders, local government, and NGOs. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing community development programs that align with the company's social responsibility objectives. This hybrid role allows for impactful work within the community while maintaining a flexible schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy aligned with mining project timelines.
• Act as the primary point of contact for community members, local leaders, and relevant organizations.
• Organize and facilitate community meetings, consultations, and feedback sessions.
• Identify and manage community development initiatives and social investment projects.
• Monitor and report on community relations, stakeholder perceptions, and social risks.
• Ensure compliance with social license requirements and stakeholder engagement protocols.

Requirements

• Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in community liaison, stakeholder engagement, or corporate social responsibility, preferably within the mining or resource sector .
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong understanding of community dynamics and development issues in South Africa.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and manage sensitive situations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
