About the Role

Our client, a responsible mining company with significant operations, is seeking a proactive and empathetic Community Engagement Officer to serve their initiatives in Sandton, Gauteng . This vital role involves building and maintaining positive relationships between the mining operations and the local communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding community needs, facilitating communication, implementing social responsibility programs, and ensuring alignment with the company's Social Labour Plan (SLP) commitments. You will act as a key liaison, addressing concerns, promoting mutual understanding, and contributing to sustainable development. We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of community dynamics, and a passion for fostering positive social impact in the areas surrounding our operations in Gauteng . This role requires a strategic approach to community relations and a commitment to ethical engagement practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement community engagement strategies and plans for mining operations in the Sandton vicinity.
• Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with community leaders, local government officials, and various community stakeholders.
• Organize and facilitate community meetings, consultations, and information-sharing sessions.
• Manage the company's social investment and development programs, ensuring they meet community needs and SLP objectives.

• Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., HR, Operations, Legal) to ensure coordinated community engagement efforts.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies regarding community engagement and social performance.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in community engagement, corporate social responsibility (CSR), or stakeholder relations, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Demonstrated understanding of community development principles and practices.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse groups.
• Proficiency in project management and reporting.
• Knowledge of the Social Labour Plan (SLP) framework in South Africa is highly desirable.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a hybrid work arrangement involving both office and field engagement.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Gauteng region.
