About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Community Agriculture Coordinator to foster agricultural development and engagement within the local community in Soweto, Gauteng. This role focuses on promoting urban farming initiatives, supporting community gardens, and empowering residents with the knowledge and resources to engage in sustainable agriculture. You will work closely with community members, local organizations, and stakeholders to develop and implement projects that enhance food security, promote healthy living, and create economic opportunities. This is a hands-on role requiring strong community engagement skills and a passion for local food systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement community-based urban agriculture projects and training programs.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to community gardens and individual urban farmers.
  • Organize workshops and educational sessions on topics such as sustainable gardening, composting, and pest management.
  • Facilitate partnerships between community members, local government, and relevant organizations.
  • Assist in securing resources and funding for community agriculture initiatives.
  • Promote awareness of healthy eating, local food sourcing, and the benefits of urban farming.
  • Monitor the progress and impact of community agriculture projects, collecting data and reporting on outcomes.
Requirements
  • A diploma or certificate in Agriculture, Community Development, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in community engagement, project coordination, or urban agriculture.
  • Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices, crop cultivation, and soil management.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse community groups.
  • Passion for food security, sustainable living, and community empowerment.
