Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Commercial Refrigeration Technician for Vereeniging, Gauteng. You will install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases and ice machines, ensuring safety and compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning trade qualification, at least 4 years of commercial experience, and EPA 608 certification. You will read schematics, handle refrigerants responsibly, and provide excellent customer service

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (e.g., NTC 3, Red Seal) is essential.
• Minimum of 4 years of proven experience specifically in commercial refrigeration installation and repair.
• In-depth knowledge of refrigeration principles, cycles, and common refrigerants.
• Proficiency in using specialized refrigeration tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical control systems for refrigeration units.
• Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and schematics.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a meticulous work ethic.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Certification in refrigerant handling (e.g., EPA Section 608) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Install new commercial refrigeration systems and equipment according to design specifications and safety codes.
• Perform preventative maintenance on refrigeration units to ensure efficient operation and minimize breakdowns.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex refrigeration system issues, identifying root causes of malfunctions.
• Repair or replace faulty components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control systems.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, including handling refrigerants responsibly.
• Maintain accurate service records, including work performed, parts used, and time spent.
• Provide excellent customer service and clear communication regarding service needs and resolutions.
• Respond to emergency service calls in a timely manner.
• Stay updated on the latest refrigeration technologies and best practices.
