Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking a senior Commercial Manager to lead CPM, drive tender excellence, and oversee the commercial execution of large industrial projects. You will manage contract values, project costs, and client interfaces to ensure alignment with main contracts.

The role requires extensive experience in international contracting, NEC/FIDIC contracts, and a strong track record in claims management and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in commercial, legal, accounting or financial management or equivalent required.
• Management and/or leadership training beneficial.
• In-depth knowledge of NEC, FIDIC and other contract suites essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead CPM function, including commercial input into tenders and project execution.
• Manage commercial costs, contract values and project reporting.
• Oversee contracts and subcontracts management, and insurance/claims coordination.
• Coordinate tax/insurance queries with finance and client interface as needed.
• Vetting of POs and sub-contracts to align terms with main contract.

Job description

Your responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the job as summarised below, but not limited to:

Support during bidding phase

• Analyze the commercial aspects of a customer request to tender and provide key commercial and financial inputs for a competitive
• Draw up a strategy and identify key issues for association with business partners (Joint ventures, consortium, sub-contracting).
• Evaluate the commercial and financial risks of the proposed bid and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance with internal directives pertaining to risk management aspects of the bid.
• Provide input and support during the negotiation of the commercial terms and conditions with the client.

Commercial Execution

• Take complete responsibility for the commercial execution of
• Ensure fulfilment of all commercial conditions laid down in the main contract with the customer.
• Co-ordinate all issues of financial project management (bank guarantees, parent company guarantees, letters of credit).
• Co-ordinate all tax and insurance related queries and interface with clients on these matters in consultation with finance.
• Provide necessary support to procurement by vetting the purchase orders and sub-contracts to ensure that terms and conditions thereof are synchronized with the main contract.

To lead the commercial project management (CPM) function, including the commercial input into tenders; the commercial execution of projects; commercial claims management; the planning, controlling and reporting of project costs, contract values and project results; the management of commercial aspects of contracts and subcontracts, and the management of any other relevant owner’s interfaces.

Your profile

Education

Bachelor’s degree in commercial, legal, accounting or financial management or equivalent

Additional Educational Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of FIDIC, NEC and other suites of contracts

Work Experience

• At least 12 years relevant experience in the international contracting business especially with regard to project commercial execution / contract administration and controlling. (15+ years preferred)
• At least 12 years’ experience in claim management (15+ years preferred)
• Sound legal knowledge
• Extensive experience with NEC and/or FIDIC based contracts
• Track record of experience in Claims Management, Insurance and Compliance.
