Minimum required experience and competencies:

  • Admitted Attorney with 3 to 5 years post-admission experience
  • Completed B Com Law and LLB degrees
  • Postgraduate qualifications (beneficial)
  • 3 to 5 years post-admission experience in High Court litigation - Commercial matters
  • Experience in drafting pleadings, applications, and court notices
  • Proficient in Court Online and Case Lines
  • Experience in drafting Commercial Agreements
  • Experience in Data Privacy and Consumer Law (beneficial)
  • Experience in Company Secretarial work (beneficial)
  • The candidate should be self-motivated, meticulous, dedicated, and an analytical thinker who thrives on solving complex legal issues.

Key responsibilities and duties:

The duties of the Commercial Associate will include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending client consultations and taking instructions
  • Drafting Court pleadings, applications, and notices accurately
  • Compiling comprehensive commercial quotations
  • Managing litigation matters effectively
  • Drafting or reviewing legal documents such as contracts, agreements, and letters of demand promptly and accurately
  • Briefing counsel and relevant third parties with proper pre-consultation preparation
  • Managing files efficiently (company files, client files, counsel files, court copies)
  • Adhering to FICA requirements and completing relevant documentation accurately
  • Responding promptly to client queries, including invoice and general queries
  • Updating clients and relevant parties regularly on the status of matters and instructions
  • Providing sound and competent legal advice
  • Ensuring billing requirements are met according to client instructions
  • Managing debtors effectively by following up on outstanding accounts
