• Minimum 8 years in hygiene management or related field.

About the Role

Our client, a leading hospitality and facilities management group operating in Bloemfontein, Free State , is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Hygiene Officer. This senior leadership position is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and sanitation across all their diverse operations. The Chief Hygiene Officer will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with all relevant health regulations, developing innovative hygiene strategies, and leading a team dedicated to upholding public health and safety. This is a pivotal role for an individual with exceptional leadership capabilities and a deep understanding of hygiene science, looking to make a significant impact within a reputable organization in the Free State .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive hygiene and sanitation strategies and policies across all company operations in Bloemfontein and beyond.
• Ensure strict compliance with national and international health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the hygiene team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Conduct regular audits and assessments of facilities and operational procedures to identify areas of risk and ensure adherence to standards.
• Develop and deliver training programs for staff at all levels on hygiene best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Manage relationships with external regulatory bodies, suppliers, and industry associations.
• Investigate and manage any hygiene-related incidents or outbreaks, implementing immediate corrective actions.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in hygiene and sanitation management.
• Prepare detailed reports for senior management on hygiene performance, compliance status, and strategic recommendations.
• Oversee the budget for the hygiene department, ensuring cost-effective management of resources and supplies.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in hygiene management, public health, environmental services, or a related field, with a significant portion in a senior leadership capacity.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing large-scale hygiene programs in complex environments (e.g., hospitality, healthcare, food service).
• In-depth knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation (e.g., OHSA, Food Safety Standards) in South Africa .
• Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a meticulous approach to detail.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders.
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
• A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Microbiology, or a related science) is essential.
• Experience managing budgets and cross-functional teams is required.
