About the Role

Our client, a large hospitality and events group operating across Soweto, Gauteng , is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Sanitation and Hygiene Services. This senior leadership position is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the highest standards of sanitation and hygiene across all venues and operations. You will lead a dedicated team, develop comprehensive strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive a culture of impeccable cleanliness. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in sanitation management within the hospitality sector, strong leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of health and safety regulations. This is a critical role for ensuring guest safety and satisfaction in the vibrant Gauteng hospitality scene.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive sanitation and hygiene strategy for all operations in Soweto and surrounding areas.
• Lead, train, and manage the sanitation and cleaning teams, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to standards.
• Establish and enforce rigorous cleaning protocols, schedules, and quality control measures.
• Ensure full compliance with all local and national health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
• Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential sanitation issues.
• Manage the budget for sanitation supplies, equipment, and staffing, ensuring cost-efficiency.
• Procure and manage inventory of cleaning agents, tools, and protective equipment.
• Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for all staff on hygiene best practices.
• Collaborate with department heads (Food & Beverage, Operations, Housekeeping) to integrate hygiene practices seamlessly.
• Stay abreast of industry advancements, emerging risks, and best practices in sanitation and hygiene management.
• Serve as the primary subject matter expert on all sanitation and hygiene matters.

Requirements

Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in sanitation and hygiene management, preferably within the hospitality, events, or food service industry. Proven experience in a senior leadership role with responsibility for managing large teams and budgets. In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, HACCP, food safety standards, and relevant health regulations. Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management abilities. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective training programs. Proficiency in relevant software for management, reporting, and inventory control. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Relevant tertiary qualification in Public Health, Environmental Health, Hospitality Management, or a related field is highly desirable. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by operations in Soweto .
