Back-End Developer (Senior)

About the Role
We’re looking for a highly experienced Back-End Developer (Senior) to join a global technology environment where you’ll take ownership of complex backend solutions, influence technical direction and help guide other developers.
This is more than a hands-on development position. We’re looking for someone who can architect, build, optimise and lead.
You’ll work with modern Node.js, AWS Serverless and cloud-native technologies, developing and operating production-ready systems while solving complex challenges across multiple systems.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, develop and operate production-ready backend applications.
- Architect scalable solutions using Node.js and AWS Serverless technologies.
- Work extensively with AWS services including:
- Lambda
- API Gateway
- DynamoDB
- SQS/SNS
- Kinesis
- S3
- CloudWatch
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to other developers.
- Influence technical solutions and drive improvements across existing systems.
- Design and operate CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation and Terraform.
- Work with Kubernetes and serverless compute environments.
- Automate application, infrastructure and configuration deployments.
- Design solutions using both SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Apply appropriate software design and architecture patterns.
- Implement cloud security patterns across solutions and deployments.
- Monitor and operate applications using AWS CloudWatch.
- Build and maintain comprehensive automated unit and end-to-end tests.
- Solve complex technical problems spanning multiple systems.
- Identify risks and impediments and proactively drive resolution.
- Liaise with customers, technical teams and external vendors.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation.
- Mentor, coach and proactively share knowledge across teams.
- Work within an Agile/Scrum environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5+ years' production experience with Node.js in serverless environments.
- 5+ years' hands-on AWS Serverless experience, including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and SQS/SNS.
- 5+ years' automated testing experience, including unit and end-to-end testing.
- Proven experience leading IT teams.
- Strong hands-on AWS cloud expertise.
- Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and Serverless technologies.
- Infrastructure as Code experience using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
- CI/CD pipeline experience, preferably using GitHub Actions.
- Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with virtual networking and cloud-to-on-premises connectivity.
- Automated deployment and configuration experience.
- Monitoring and log analytics expertise.
- Strong understanding of Design and Architecture Patterns.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical solutions.
Advantageous Skills
- Linear and nonlinear optimisation.
- Design and evaluation of efficient algorithms and complexity theory.
- Performance testing and tuning.
- E-mobility experience.
- Java.
Qualifications
- Relevant IT degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant cloud certifications.
- Developer Associate-level cloud certification preferred as a minimum.
- Professional-level cloud certification would be highly advantageous.
