Job summary

Opensource Intelligent Solutions is seeking an experienced Back-End Developer (Advanced) to join a dynamic global technology environment in Pretoria. You will develop and operate scalable backend applications, build serverless solutions with Node.js and AWS, and contribute to modern cloud architecture.

In this hybrid role, you’ll work in an Agile team, mentor peers, and collaborate with customers and external partners to deliver production-ready software and CI/CD pipelines, while applying

Qualifications

• 5+ years' production experience with Node.js in serverless environments.
• 3+ years' hands-on AWS Serverless experience including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and SQS/SNS.
• 3+ years' automated testing experience including unit and end-to-end testing.
• Experience leading IT teams.
• Strong AWS cloud experience.
• Experience with Kubernetes and Serverless technologies.
• Infrastructure as Code experience, preferably CloudFormation, Terraform beneficial.
• CI/CD pipeline experience, preferably GitHub Actions.
• Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with automated deployments and configuration.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, including communication with on-prem environments.
• Monitoring and log analytics experience.
• Strong understanding of Design and Architecture Patterns.
• Agile/Scrum experience.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Back-End Developer (Advanced) to join a dynamic global technology environment, working on innovative, cloud-based solutions with real-world impact.

This role is ideal for a developer with strong Node.js and AWS Serverless expertise who enjoys solving technical challenges, building scalable applications and contributing to modern cloud architecture.

You’ll work within an Agile team developing and operating production-ready applications while collaborating with technical teams, customers and external partners.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and operate scalable, production-ready backend applications.
• Build serverless solutions using Node.js and AWS.
• Work extensively with AWS services including:
  • Lambda
  • API Gateway
  • DynamoDB
  • SQS/SNS
  • Kinesis
  • S3
  • CloudWatch
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
• Automate application and infrastructure deployments.
• Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Apply cloud security patterns and best practices.
• Monitor and troubleshoot applications using AWS CloudWatch and log analytics.
• Apply software design and architecture patterns.
• Build and maintain automated unit and end-to-end tests.
• Identify technical risks and proactively resolve or elevate issues.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 5+ years' production experience with Node.js in serverless environments.

• 3+ years' automated testing experience, including unit and end-to-end testing.
• Experience leading IT teams.
