The role requires a seasoned engineer with 10+ years in Node.js production, strong AWS skills, and leadership experience. Expect a fast-paced, Agile setup with hybrid work and a 3-year renewable contract.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' production experience with Node.js in serverless environments.
• 5+ years' automated testing (unit & E2E).
• 5+ years' hands-on AWS serverless experience (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
• Proven experience leading IT/development teams and technical leadership.
• Strong AWS cloud, Kubernetes, IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform), and CI/CD skills.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and cloud monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate production-ready backend applications with 24/7 support.
• Build scalable backends using Node.js and AWS serverless tech.
• Design and maintain AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Kinesis, S3, CloudWatch).
• Develop IaC using CloudFormation or Terraform and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).

Back-End Developer (Advanced)

Location: Menlyn, Pretoria

Working Model: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office

Contract: 3-year renewable contract

About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Back-End Developer (Advanced) to join a global technology environment working on innovative, cloud-based solutions.

This is a senior technical opportunity for an accomplished developer with extensive Node.js and AWS serverless experience, strong architecture and DevOps capabilities, and experience leading and mentoring technical teams.

You will work on sophisticated solutions within the energy and e-mobility space, including intelligent and bidirectional charging technologies, energy ecosystem integrations, backend charging solutions, APIs and cloud-based platforms.

The environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative and Agile, with exposure to complex global systems and cutting-edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate production-ready backend applications, including systems requiring 24/7 support.
• Build highly scalable backend solutions using Node.js and AWS serverless technologies.
• Design and maintain solutions using AWS services including:
• Lambda
• API Gateway
• DynamoDB
• SQS/SNS
• Kinesis

• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
• Design, configure and operate CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions.
• Implement automated deployment and configuration of applications, components and infrastructure.
• Monitor applications and infrastructure using AWS CloudWatch, logging and analytics tools.
• Apply cloud security principles, patterns and best practices across solutions and deployments.
• Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Apply appropriate software design and architecture patterns.
• Develop systems in accordance with quality, security and delivery standards.
• Build and maintain comprehensive automated testing, including unit and end-to-end testing.
• Identify technical risks and impediments and proactively resolve or escape them.
• Produce and maintain system and technical documentation in accordance with required standards.
• Collaborate with customers, internal teams and external vendors.
• Lead technical discussions and provide guidance to other developers.
• Mentor, coach and proactively share knowledge across technical teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 10+ years' production experience with Node.js, specifically within serverless environments.
• 5+ years' experience with automated testing, including unit and end-to-end testing.
• 5+ years' hands-on AWS serverless experience, particularly:
• AWS Lambda
• API Gateway
• DynamoDB
• SQS/SNS
• Proven experience leading or providing technical leadership to IT/development teams.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies.
• Experience with Kubernetes and serverless compute environments.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
• Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions.
• Strong experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with virtual networking, including connectivity between cloud and on-premises environments.
• Experience with automated deployments and configuration management.
• Strong knowledge of monitoring, logging and analytics within cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of software design and architecture patterns.
• Experience working within Agile or Scrum environments.

Advantageous Skills

• Experience with linear and nonlinear optimisation.
• Knowledge of algorithm design, efficiency and complexity theory.
• Performance testing and application/system tuning.
• Experience within e-mobility, energy or electric vehicle technology environments.
• Java development experience.

Qualifications

• Relevant IT/Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant cloud certifications.
• AWS Certified Developer – Associate or equivalent certification is preferred as a minimum.
• AWS Professional-level certification would be highly advantageous.
