Job summary

Opensource Intelligent Solutions seeks a Senior Back-End Developer to own complex backend solutions in a hybrid environment in Pretoria. You will architect, build, optimise and lead, using modern Node.js, AWS Serverless, and cloud-native tech across Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3 and more.

You’ll mentor teams, drive improvements, design and operate CI/CD pipelines, IaC with CloudFormation/Terraform, and work in Agile/Scrum contexts to deliver production-ready systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production Node.js experience in serverless environments.
• broad experience with AWS Serverless services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS.
• 5+ years of automated testing experience including unit and end-to-end tests.
• Proven track record leading IT teams and designing scalable backend architectures.
• Strong AWS cloud expertise and knowledge of Kubernetes and serverless technologies.
• Experience with IaC using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
• CI/CD pipelines experience, preferably GitHub Actions.
• Solid experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of cloud networking and on-prem connectivity.
• Design patterns and architecture principles familiarity.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Ability to work independently and own complex technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate production-ready backend applications.
• Architect scalable solutions using Node.js and AWS Serverless tech.
• Lead and mentor other developers and guide technical direction.
• Build and operate CI/CD pipelines and IaC workflows.
• Implement and enforce cloud security patterns and monitoring.
• Collaborate with customers and vendors; produce technical docs.
• Write automated unit and end-to-end tests; ensure reliability.
• Respond to risks and drive issue resolution across systems.
• Work in Agile/Scrum teams and contribute to architecture discussions.
