Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer for on‑site work in Tembisa, Gauteng, South Africa. The role focuses on translating concepts into detailed drawings and specifications for vehicle components, collaborating with manufacturing and R&D teams to optimize designs for production.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of five years’ experience in automotive mechanical design, strong CAD proficiency (SolidWorks/CATIA/AutoCAD), and familiarity with FEA tools (ANSYS/ABAQUS).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience in the automotive sector.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD).
• Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS).
• Strong GD&T knowledge and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for automotive applications using CAD software.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs.
• Perform stress/thermal analyses and simulations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure cost-effectiveness and producibility.
• Conduct design reviews and implement feedback to optimize performance and durability.
• Investigate and resolve design issues during prototype development and production.
• Research and recommend new materials, technologies, and processes.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
